Getting the best results from your wax starts before you even step through the door. Here's how to prepare like a pro
Firstly, and really importantly, there are a few things that may make waxing unsuitable, unsafe, or require modifications. Your welfare and safety will always come first so please ensure you let me know before booking if you have any of the following
Active skin infections (bacterial, viral, or fungal)
Cold sores, open cuts, or broken skin in the treatment area
Recent sunburn or tanning (natural or sunbed) in the last 48 hours
Active acne, eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis in the treatment area
Skin thinning treatments (e.g. steroid creams, glycolic acid, retinol)
Use of Roaccutane or similar acne medication in the past 6 months
Recent laser treatment, microdermabrasion, or chemical peels
Varicose veins or phlebitis in the treatment area
Diabetes (especially if insulin-dependent)
Blood thinning medication (e.g. warfarin)
History of allergic reaction to wax, resins, or aftercare products
Known hypersensitivity or very sensitive skin
Immune disorders or conditions affecting healing
Any recent surgeries or injuries in the area to be waxed
Not sure? Just drop me a message—I’d rather know so we can keep it safe and comfy!
Let It Grow
Hair should be at least 0.5cm long (around the length of a grain of rice). If you've been shaving, give it 2–3 weeks of growth. If it’s longer than 2cm, give it a little trim – but don’t worry, I can help if needed.
Come Clean
Shower before your appointment to ensure your skin is fresh and clean. Avoid using heavy moisturisers, oils, or powders on the area being waxed — clean, dry skin gives the best results.
Dress Comfy
Wear loose, breathable clothing to your appointment. Skin can be a bit sensitive after waxing, so ditch the skinny jeans or tight boxers for the day.
Take the Edge Off (Optional)
If you're worried about discomfort, you can take paracetamol or ibuprofen about 30 minutes before your appointment (please follow the instructions on the packet and ensure you're not allergic or intolerant).
Skip the Gym & Tan
Avoid the gym, sauna, sunbeds or any intense sweating for 24 hours before and after your wax. This helps reduce irritation and the risk of spots or ingrown hairs.
No Booze or Caffeine
Alcohol and caffeine can increase skin sensitivity, so it’s best to avoid them for a few hours before your appointment. Save the celebratory pint for later!
Relax – You’re in Safe Hands
It’s normal to feel a little nervous, especially if it’s your first time. Rest assured, I’m fully trained, DBS checked, and focused on your comfort, discretion, and hygiene.
